Song Swap: Amber Rubarth
& Josh Kimbrough
Amber Rubarth and local artist Josh Kimbrough will join forces on May 15 to swap their original tunes. Come one, come all!
Amber Rubarth is a singer-songwriter coming to us from upstate NY. Former chainsaw sculptor turned self-taught multi-instrumentalist, she has toured her soulful, poetic music across the US, Europe, Japan, and South Africa, and supported the likes of Emmylou Harris, Richie Havens, and Dr. Ralph Stanley. Her ninth full length album, Cover Crop, is a meditation on our interconnectivity with nature.
Josh Kimbrough is a fingerstyle guitarist and composer from Chatham County. He was a key member of Chapel Hill's Trekky Records Collective (Lost in the Trees, Sylvan Esso) in the early aughts and has recently toured with Andrew Marlin (Watchhouse) and Joan Osborne. His debut album 'Slither, Soar & Disappear' has been praised as a collection of delicate folk songs that run free.

July 17 & 18, 2025
Musical Madness Medley
In a Woodshed (Chatham County?) first, three independent theater groups--preteens at a summer camp, adults at the Woodshed, and seniors from Carolina Meadows--will be tasked with creating three brand new short musicals based on the same single prompt. We will share these musicals at Carolina Meadows on July 17 and at Woods Charter on July 18, times TBA. Stay tuned!

Songwriting with Dawn Landes
Do you have a poem or narrative that might make a good song? Maybe just one line that you always thought could be a great lyric? This class is designed to help shape your writing into song form. We’ll discuss song structures and techniques used by some of the greatest songwriters and apply them to your song. While we will use a few writing prompts, you will mostly focus on one piece that you’d like to mold into a song. No musical experience necessary! Led by award winning songwriter Dawn Landes

Build the Band
Ages 11-14; Thurdays 3:30-5:00, Sept 4--Oct 9
In this high-intensity creative jam, we will create a brand new band! The group will figure out what their “thing” is–mohawks? worn leather boots and hats? Black suits?--and create an original song that epitomizes their essence. We’ll rehearse and perform the song for family & friends at our final meeting!
